Herniated Disc Treatment

Spine decompression is a type of surgery performed to remove pressure applied on the spine or nerve root. This surgery works by removing the lamina to widen the spaces in the spine or nerve roots to relieve all symptoms that are related to spinal cord irritation and compression. Such symptoms include numbness, pain, weakness and burning sensations.

Sciatica is mainly an irritation of the largest nerve called the sciatic nerve and its nerve roots. This causes pain from mild to extreme around the hip area down to the thigh and legs. The pressure on the sciatic nerve is commonly due to a herniated disc or slipped disc along the lumbar area of the spine. This condition is oftentimes diagnosed as radiculopathy, which means, a disc has stick out of the annulus fibrosus, the disc’s outer covering.

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve gets inflamed or irritated. It is characterized by pain and sometimes tenderness, weakness or numbness from lower part of the back down to the thighs, legs and feet. Sciatica pain normally starts from the buttocks or sometimes, from the lower back going downward along the flow of the sciatic nerve.

Sciatica is wrongfully explained as a leg pain. Well, maybe there is truth to that, but basically it is not just an ordinary leg pain. It is a medical condition so rampant that people seem to take it for granted assuming they can get away with it with self-treatment and by doing what other people is doing or advising. Others are dimly aware of the danger that sciatica illnesses bring.

Sciatica is associated to that shooting pain from the buttocks and hips and runs down to the leg and feet. Mostly, this condition is accompanied by back pain felt in the lower portion and is more defined compared to the leg pain. “Sciatica” is indicative of the involvement of the sciatic nerve, the body’s biggest nerve. It runs from the buttocks to the legs. As this nerve gets irritated or disturbed by some pressure, maybe from a herniated disc, the person then feels that burning pain or sciatic pain.
